Darryl Deshun Cooper, 24, has been arrested by members of the Frederick City Police Department for his alleged role in an August fire that was reportedly intentionally set, authorities announced on Thursday, March 16.

On Aug. 24 last year, first responders were called to 90 Waverley Drive in Frederick to investigate an apartment fire that was reported in the area. Investigators say that evidence determined that the fire was fueled by an accelerant and it was ultimately ruled an arson case.

At the time the fire was set, no one was home, but there was one dog inside who died from injuries consistent with smoke inhalation, they noted.

Indictments for Cooper’s arrest were returned by a grand jury in January, and he was tracked down by detectives on Wednesday, March 15, who charged him with:

  • Arson;
  • Aggravated cruelty to animals;
  • Animal cruelty;
  • Four counts of reckless endangerment.

No return court date or bond information for Cooper was provided by the police.
